LA BANCHINAS HISTORY

La Banchina means "the little quay" in Italian. A name that couldn't be more fitting.
Sitting at the edge of Copenhagen's harbour, the building has always been a place where people arrived, departed and gathered. Originally, it served as the main guardhouse and waiting room for workers at the former Burmeister & Wain (B&W) shipyard, one of Denmark's largest industrial workplaces for more than a century.

Between 2015 and 2016, founder, Christer Bredgaard, transformed the abandoned building into the restaurant and wine bar it is today. Rather than restoring it beyond recognition, the building's raw, weathered character was preserved, allowing its history to remain part of the experience.

Today, La Banchina continues to honor both its name and its surroundings: a pier where people come together - over seasonal food, natural wine, a swim in the harbour or a sauna. While much has evolved over the years, the atmosphere remains intentionally unpolished, welcoming and connected to the surroundings.
